Top Five Slingshots
Posted by: | CommentsThis is will be a short summery of the top five slingshots that are on the market today. I have been selling slingshots for some time, and I use this ‘inside” information to rank the slingshots. I also read reviews and keep up on all the latest in slingshot technology.
I like slingshots because of how long they have been used as weapons and for hunting. One could argue that the slingshot is one of the oldest weapons in human history. Throughout history, going as far back as David and Goliath, there have been many variations of the slingshot.
The story of David and Goliath was written at about the same time as when Homer was writing his works. That would be around 800 BC. The story that is being told is from the past, and could be referring to a time around 3000 BC. That makes the first recorded slingshot about five thousand years old!
Getting back to the top slingshots of our time:
#5 Coming in at number five we have the . Right at $10.00 For fewer than ten bucks, you can’t go wrong with this basic slingshot. This makes a great starter slingshot for kids.
#4 Next, at number four in my review, we have the II Talon Grip Slingshot. Under 15.00
This is a popular high-velocity model with a magnetic pouch that also folds for easy storage.
#3 Filling in the number three position is the . Under $20.00 This is a slingshot that also comes with a mini maglite for shooting at night. The critters seem to come around at night, so this is a handy feature to have. It also has a range of up to 185 yards.
#2 The number two most popular slingshot is the . Under $15.00
This slingshot falls into the high-velocities class of slingshots. With its extra powerful band, this slingshot is of greater power than most slingshots. This model also folds, making it easy to pack along.
#1 And… The number one all-time favorite slingshot on the market today is the . Just over 20.00 This is a professional grade slingshot, and is by far the most popular model on the market today. It’s slightly more expensive than the other slingshots on the market, but with all the features and fantastic accuracy, I can easily see why so many people choose the Diablo over all the others.
All of these slingshots make for excellent weapons, and may also be used in paintball games called sling paintball. They are great for hunting small critters as well. The average speed and distance of a wrist rocket is slightly less than that of a paintball gun, but a wrist rocket can serve as a great backup weapon, or it can be used as a silent sniper weapon. The hand rocket has a long history as a toy for children, as a hunting weapon, as well as being used in war. They have come a long way, and are the perfect thing for hunting or driving off nasty critters that get into your garbage!

Slingshots in the news 4-26-2010
Posted by: | CommentsWoman Arrested for Using Slingshot and Blowgun
On Wednesday a 41 year old woman named Paula Wolf was arrested for shooting pedestrians with darts and rocks with a blowgun and slingshot. Wolf used her van to wander around in streets and whenever she’d find someone walking on the sidewalk she would take out her blowgun and shoot the person. She also used a slingshot to throw rocks at windows of shops or houses. She tried to break the window of a squad car, but failed because the glass of the window of police cars is made of high density.
One man told police that he was walking down the street when he felt a dart in his chest. A woman reported the same thing. Another man reported that he was hit in the back with the dart. A woman told police that she was standing in the street smoking when she was hit by the dart, but it didn’t puncture her skin because she was wearing a lot of clothes.

Slingshot Overview: Modern and In History
Posted by: | CommentsOne could argue that the slingshot is one of the oldest weapons in human history. Throughout history, going as far back as David and Goliath, there have been many variations of the slingshot. From wild forest hunters to today’s sportsman, many people know how to aim and use a wrist rocket effectively.
The story of David and Goliath was written at about the same time as when Homer was writing his works. That would be around 800 BC. The story that is being told is from the past, and could be referring to a time around 3000 BC.
That makes the first recorded slingshot about five thousand years old!
The Modern Slingshot
Slingshots today come in a large variety of styles, shapes and are constructed with modern materials. Because of these advancements, they are no longer simply considered to be “toys” but have become truly powerful weapons that in the right hands can bring down all kinds of small game such as squirrels, birds and rabbits.
You have to be a skilled shot though to hit one of these critters, and this is even truer if the critter is on the move.
You can now get these modern catapults with sights, even high powered sights that are called “laser” sights. Today’s high velocity, high accuracy slingshots also include such features as a self-centering ammo band and pouch, wear-reducing prongs, and guidance collars.
Because of these advancements, there have been radical improvements in the power, fork design and materials, which make these tools true weapons, which are great for competitive shooting by adults as well as for kids.
There are many regional and national clubs and competitions for the modern slingshot enthusiasts.
Shooting Skill
Despite all the advancements in technology, from that time so long ago when the small little David confronted the huge Goliath, hunting with modern high velocity slingshots still requires a high degree of shooting skill that can only be acquired through dedication and practice.
The first “Wrist Rockets”
One of the first modern slingshots was put out by the Wham-O, company way back in 1949. Then there was the Saunders “Wrist-Rockets” which were introduced in 1954. From that time over 50 years ago until our present day, their popularity has not dwindled.
Some of the popular models currently on the market have names such as “Black Widow” and “Laser Hawk,” which are quite fitting names.
The basic ideas and principles first generated by manufacturers during the early fifties are still used in the slingshots that you can buy today. You can get stocks made of steel, aluminum, and wood – whatever you may choose.
Laws
There are laws governing the shipment of the slingshot that should be kept keep in mind. For example, slingshots cannot be shipped to some states such as Massachusetts, New Jersey or New York.
You should check your local area for any special codes concerning shooting slingshots in residential areas. It is recommended that you go to a low populated and open area when shooting.
Wrist Rocket Safety
Safety should always be kept in mind whenever you use projectiles. Having a band snap back and hit someone in the face can be dangerous.
Be sure to wear glasses when firing because safety glasses are highly recommended when using slingshots.
Also, never shoot at people.
You can truly hurt someone with one of these. Keep in mind that these modern devices can be more powerful than even many air guns. Safety must be taken seriously.
