How To Make a Slingshot
Posted by: | Comments
Want to learn how to make a slingshot? I have gathered resources to help you make your own slingshot at home.
There are several videos, as well as resource articles and links that provide all the information you need to make a homemade slingshot. Be sure to check out our “the slingshot man video.”
Making a slingshot is easy and safe if you use the correct materials and fasten everything securely. Having a slingshot band snap you in the face sucks, so make sure you fasten the rubber good.
That is the major concern with home made slingshots. If you want to buy slingshot bands for your home made slingshot I have them here.

How to Make a Sling Shot: 10 steps -- wikiHow
#1 Find a sturdy, y-shaped piece of wood. You can make slingshots with forked branch of just about any size, but piece about 6-9 inches long, with a fairly uniform thickness of 1-2 inches generally makes a strong, easy-to-use slingshot. Try to find a piece with as few imperfections as possible; even moderate cracks can render your slingshot dangerous or unusable. If there are knots or bumps you can cut or sand them off.
#2 Peel off the bark. With the bark gone the slingshot will be more comfortable to hold. You may need to let the branch dry a little before you can get the bark off.
#3 Let the wood dry. This step isn't necessary, but if the wood is still green, it's a good idea to let it slowly dry. This will give it more stability and strength.

Rufus Hussey The Beanshooter Slingshot Man Video
Posted by: | CommentsThe Beanshooter Slingshot Man
The 65 year old Rufus Hussey is without a doubt the most awesome slingshot shooter in the land. Born and raised in North Carolina on a farm, Rufus learned his slingshot skills out of necessity. He had to use his slingshot for hunting rabbit because his older brother was the one who got to use the shotgun.
Rufus appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and was interviewed by Charles Kuralt.

Rufus Hussey… The Beanshooter Man Passed Away In 1994
In 1972 Rufus decided to start making beanshooters to sell or give away in order to promote what he felt was becoming a lost art. He gave each its own serial number which he recorded on the butt-end of the handle. Rufus passed away in Feb. of 1994. The last beanshooter he had completed carried the number 15,864. Now that's a lot of walking the woods searching for Dogwood forks.
In his later years Rufus became quite famous shooting his beanshooter to the amazement of country and city-folk alike. He appeared on many TV shows where he demonstrated his skill. One TV host asked… “Rufus, I understand you can knock a quarter out of the air with that thing! Is that right?” Rufus responded… “I can hit a penny…. but when it gets that cheap, it’s time to quit!”
